Formulation Scientist

Columbia, MD

Job Description Summary:

  • Under the director of the Director, of R&D, the Formulation Scientist, located in Columbia, MD, will develop and evaluate innovative processes and formulations for new and existing biological, biochemical, microbial and natural product derived from plants. The Formulation Chemist will work collaboratively with research groups, Regulatory Affairs, Field Development, Manufacturing and other thirds parties. The Formulation Scientist will provide technical support for current commercial biological products and for all products under research and development programs, including the support of the manufacturing plant formulation and scale- up processes.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, create and develop novel proprietary ,spray formulation and formulation processes from Microbial and Natural biorational substances.
  • Evaluate new prototype formulations through physical, chemical, biological, and efficacy screening programs.
  • Conduct scale-up studies to take prototype formulations from lab bench-top to pilot scale and then to production scale at Certis Manufacturing plant.
  • Develop manufacturing methods for the new formulation and directions for manufacturing and for third-party formulators to transfer technology. 
  • Provide technical leadership in Formulation technology and innovative research
  • Support Regulatory Affairs by preparing representative batches to support GLP phys/chem characterization and registration studies.
  • Prepare product chemistry documentation to support global product registrations. 
  • Work with the Development teams and Supply Chain to identify new formulation needs , and new replacement of non-active ingredient
  • Maintain accurate experimental designs and provide records of all work using Notebooks system
  • Follow recognized lab practices for personal safety and the safety of co-workers
  • Other related duties may be assigned

 

Work Environment / Travel Requirements:

  • Work is conducted in a laboratory setting. Sitting, standing, pushing pulling and lifting up to 20 lbs. Travel may be required up to 3 times a year to the Company’s manufacturing sites in CA and MT.

Education/Experience:

  • MS.c or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with emphasis in relevant area (chemistry organic, physical chemistry , biochemistry, materials science)
  • 5-7 years prior experience in formulating microbials and natural plant products in agriculture, a plus
  • Working knowledge and experience in fermentation, pilot plant-scale formulation processes and experience in transferring technology to commercial production, preferred
