Formulation Technician

Columbia, Maryland

Job Description Summary:

  • Under the director of the Director, of R&D, the Formulation Technician, located in Columbia, MD, will follow operating procedures for the formulation of biological products ensuring consistency throughout in a safe and efficient manner. The Formulation Technician preforms weighing of raw materials, mixing/blending process, preparation of daily product batches, monitoring the processes, recordkeeping of formulation results, daily laboratory maintenance and cleaning/sanitation of the work areas.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out all assigned duties including but not limited to product formulation, fermentation, and processing
  • Maintains the inventory of raw materials and finished products
  • Operates, cleans and maintains laboratory equipment including corrective and preventative maintenance on associated equipment, as required.
  • Ensures compliance and accuracy involving all product tracking and product security.
  • Performs in-process and post-process quality assurance sampling, testing, and visual inspections to ensure all products meet the Certis product specifications and customer expectations
  • Records and monitors process conditions to ensure compliance to SOP
  • Properly weighs, data records, and batches tracking throughout the process
  • Executes tests on required analytical equipment.
  • Supports new product and process development work with the R&D team
  • Reports the results of work in verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to knowledge of formulation using extrusion and fluidized bed dryer equipment, a plus.


 

Work Environment / Travel Requirements:

  • Work is conducted in a laboratory setting. Sitting, standing, pushing pulling and lifting up to 20 lbs.

Education/Experience:

  • BS Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with emphasis in relevant area (chemistry organic, physical chemistry, biochemistry, materials science)
  • 1-3 years prior experience in formulating microbials and natural plant products in agriculture, a plus
  • Working knowledge and experience in fermentation, processes and experience in transferring technology to commercial production, preferred
