Maintenance Project Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Plan and execute capital and maintenance projects as assigned, activities to maintain plant operations with minimum down-time, including monitoring daily progress of projects to ensure safety, cost control and those projects meet regulatory guidelines. Maintain daily records and project files followed by detailed reports as directed. This position analyzes ongoing processes, recommends and installs approved capital projects that meet the needs of Certis USA.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The more common skills and attributes that are needed for this role may include:

  • Perform all assigned plant engineering activities such as planning installation of major equipment, designing equipment modifications according to plant standards and routine mechanical, electrical and piping design projects
  • Coordinate and qualify outside engineering and contractors, ensure adherence to company policies when dealing with contract services and meet all applicable safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide for creation and maintenance of required plant documentation and drawings for review by other members.
  • Propose and implement work processes, procedures and technical resources in accordance with the Engineering Policy, Key Principles and the Project Management Activity as outlined in the Certis Engineering master document.
  • Coordinate personnel (e.g. other project engineers, technicians, contractors etc.) to ensure the project's objectives are satisfied.
  • Propose and control the cost of the project in accordance with to the Guidelines for Capital Investment.
  • Propose and monitor the project in accordance with the key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrate and promote the company's values.
  • Ensure that one exhibits an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations and never implement any change, whether directly instructed to, or under your own initiative, without first questioning its impact in relation to product safety/quality, people safety and the environment. No compromises will be tolerated.
  • Ensure that the highest principles of ethical conduct on behalf of the community, consumer, company, and the engineering profession are adhered to and that all dealings are maintained within a competitive and fair environment and above reproach.
  • Support and encourage clear and open communication between the company team members and outside services including regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure that the procedures for protecting Certis technologies and proprietary know-how are in place and actively being implemented.
  • Ensure that all projects are designed for the long term and result in a positive impact on the company.
  • Prepare projects for approval in accordance with the Guidelines for Certis Capital Investment.
  • Ensure that all assets are well designed (i.e. plant layout, equipment selection etc.) with alternatives and fit the business purpose through applying new technologies, proven principles, thorough design reviews and basic science.
  • Ensure safe work sites at all times and installations that are easy to operate, clean and maintain as well as guaranteeing after commissioning the safe, consistent manufacture/distribution of quality products.
  • Ensure that when working with external engineering services, contractors, suppliers etc. that the scope, deliverables, performance and milestones are clearly detailed and agreed upfront in writing.
  • Ensure that the operators, mechanics, electricians etc. are effectively trained and that the transfer of the equipment to the client is both smooth and efficient. This includes all the supporting documentation that will be required by the client to operate and maintain the plant. e.g. operating instructions, equipment manuals, plant layouts, maintenance instructions, spare parts listing etc.
  • Complete final reports on all projects and ensure that this is circulated to the key Plant staff members.
  • Upon approval, proceed with craft personnel or outside contractors to complete project.
  • Develop and manage project labor schedules to cover regular and overtime work, vacation coverage, emergency call-in requirements, etc.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of parts and supplies are maintained for projects. Ensure periodic inspections of projects are performed on regular basis.
  • Support all information system (IS) and personal computer (PC) hardware, software and network support for Wasco Facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Promote a positive team-based work environment with all Certis employees.
  • Provide OJT (On the Job Training) as directed.
  • Support all ISO objectives to maintain ISO 9001-2008 certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • 30% Projects, 20% production plant, 20% office, 5% lab, 20% maintenance, and 5% meetings/Misc.

  • This position requires work in both office and chemical plant environments. This potential involves working in confined spaces, hazardous environments when required.

  • The position requires the ability to respond to 24/7 operations.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires BS degree in engineering a discipline, i.e., chemical, electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering. Training and knowledge of fermentation operations is desired. 

  • Job requires five years of manufacturing plant project engineering experience, preferably a chemical plant with at least two years supervision experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (speak, read and write)
