Sr. Microbiologist

Job Description Summary:

The Senior Microbiologist will be responsible for all functions involved with conducting research and development of Certis Biological products and programs. Including the analysis, identification and molecular characterization of all Certis Biological microbial products containing Fungi, Bacteria and Virus and for the supervision of the microbiology section of Certis Biological laboratories.

Support all activities involved Microbiology, Regulatory, fermentation, formulation and manufacturing of Certis Biological microbial products.

The position will also develop strategies to ensure effective achievement of scientific objectives. Monitors and evaluates completion of tasks and projects. Develop budgets for capital expenditures and labor for the labs of Certis Biologicals. Advises on regulatory and administrative or operational matters.


Work Environment/Travel Requirements:

Work is conducted in a laboratory setting. Sitting, standing, pushing pulling and lifting up to 20 lbs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for insuring that assigned laboratories studies are conducted in compliance with regulatory Good Laboratory Practice and FIFRA guidelines at Certis Biological labs. Monitor and be accountable for the validity of all studies conducted.

  • Prepare protocols, reports, responses, and studies with scientifically valid conclusions for submission to government regulatory agencies.

  • Plan and execute all laboratory research project with overall responsibility for data quality and validity in timeliness completion.

  • Develop or utilize standard scientific techniques and methods to defined practices and techniques for analyzing and evaluating and characterize Microbial products.

  • Overcome technical challenges by innovatively developing/modifying methodology to generate scientifically valid data for supporting Certis Biological microbial products. and develop solutions to complex technical problems and issues.

  • Communicate effectively with multi-discipline team members on project status.

  • Expand and maintain knowledge in area of expertise and regulatory guidelines. Serve as a resource for peers, Associate Scientists, and project managers.

  • Train less experienced colleagues in application of new/revised methodologies, and in laboratory and instrumental techniques.

  • Evaluate technical advances in field and their potential application to research efforts.

  • Serve as a resource for all scientific data and project managers, and other internal functional areas. Provide input for strategic planning to meet regulatory and scientific objectives.

  • Serve as a resource for other members of the Formulation, Fermentation and analytical

    chemistry group.

  • Participate in scientific conferences and contribute to scientific journals and may be responsible for identifying patentable inventions.



  • Ph.D. degree, with at least 5 – 10 years of related experience preferred in Microbiology.

  • Knowledge of USEPA/FIFRA & Good Laboratory Practice guidelines, including study design and protocol development.

  • Strong interpersonal management skills; exceptional time management, negotiation, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated communication skills – including written, oral, and presentation skills. Technical writing experience, including word processing and use of spreadsheets for data presentation and result calculations.

  • In-depth knowledge of analytical and Molecular techniques - including purification techniques, use of analytical instruments in the fields and associated data interpretation.

  • Maintenance & trouble shooting of analytical equipment. Problem solving and method

    development skills.
