Brett Highland Tapped for Prestigious Appointment

Brett Highland, Ph.D., Certis USA field development manager for the eastern U.S. and Puerto Rico, was recently appointed to the Board Certification Committee for the Southeastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America (ESA).

As part of the certification committee, Highland will help research, develop, refine and proctor the certification exams for eligible entomologists in the region.

ESA’s Board Certified Entomologist (BCE) program is geared toward those who are formally educated in entomology, ensuring they are properly trained in the field. Each new board-certified entomologist must pass a rigorous exam to qualify for the certification. Once certified, entomologists still take regular continuing education courses to maintain their professional standing.

A board-certified entomologist since 1982, Highland holds two master’s degrees – in plant protection and entomology – as well as a doctorate degree in entomology from Virginia Tech. Based in Nokomis, Fla., he manages field testing and development of Certis products in high value crops, mostly fruit and vegetables, throughout the eastern U.S.

Founded in 1889, the ESA is the largest organization in the world serving the professional and scientific needs of entomologists and those in related disciplines. Today, ESA has more than 6,000 members affiliated with educational institutions, health agencies, private industry, and government. Members are researchers, teachers, extension service personnel, administrators, marketing representatives, research technicians, consultants, students and hobbyists.
